As the end of the year approaches, it’s a natural time to assess how the year went… What went well, what could be improved upon? I think that the end of the year is a wonderful time for self reflection. Are you where you want to be? What would you need to do differently if you were going to get where you wanted to go?
I wanted to share a few questions with you that I have found helpful as I go through this self reflection process. I hope you will find them valuable as well..
I evaluate my life in 4 areas: 1) My walk with God 2) My health 3) My finances/Business 4) My family. When I answer the questions below, I make a list for each of those 4 categories
- What went well this year?
- What didn’t go so well this year that I want to see go differently next year?
- What differences would I like to see next year? I try to be as specific as possible here.
- What do I need to do to make sure I see that different result?
- How can I do the things I need to do to see the results?
I have found that thinking about these things is fairly useless without some intention around them. I need to write things down in my journal and then I need to make a plan to get the results I want. In fact, I created a template that you can use if you like to help journal out the answers to these questions. ** Click here to download **
Let’s say I am not satisfied with my health, I need to get specific about what I want. To lower my Blood pressure? To improve my blood sugar handling? How would I know if I am doing those things? I would take readings of my Blood pressure every day and track it. I would measure my fasting blood glucose and/or A1c and insulin a few times throughout the year. Maybe wear a continuous glucose meter to get real-time data.
I think it’s really important to gauge where you are, where you want to go and then create a path to get there. Without intention and purpose, it becomes just a dream. If you write it down, meditate on it and step out the plan, your brain actually begins to create a way to make it happen. That’s a topic for another day, called neuroplasticity. Dr. Carolyn Leaf has some fantastic resources on that (www.DrLeaf.com) if you are interested in that.
I hope this motivates you to spend a bit of time reflecting on this past year and planning for a great 2022.
If I can help you on your health journey, I’d be glad to talk to you to see what your next steps are. Please use this link to schedule a free phone consult if you are interested in that.
