Maybe you have heard it said that “Most people gain 5 pounds between Thanksgiving and New Year’s”. I’m not sure whether that’s true or not, but I do believe most people will gain some weight in that time. It’s busy, it’s filled with parties showcasing fatty, fried and sugary foods, and many people forgo their exercise routines this time of year. Starting around Halloween with the all you can eat candy buffet, many people begin a downhill slide with their health.
Well, it’s doesn’t have to be that way! I want to share some things that can help you deal with this time of the year. It can be a fun and festive time, but that doesn’t mean you have to let your health take a nose-dive. If you combine this period of high-sugar eating and a time when colds and other viruses are “going around” you have a double whammy since the sugar causes a decrease in your immune fighting capabilities.
Here are some things I find to be helpful:
· Learn how to say NO. You do not have to attend every function you are invited to. Pick the ones that are of the most interest to you and then go and enjoy them to the max. It’s ok to have a few Holiday treats or a cocktail here and there, just don’t do it every night. Most people don’t really want to go to all those events anyway. People are stressed out most of the time learning to pick and choose commitments has two benefits. You won’t blow off your diet as often and you won’t be as stressed out when you do go trying to juggle everything else in your life.
· Set boundaries for yourself. Strategically pick your cheats. For example, don’t just go to a dinner, event or party without a plan. Look at the menu ahead of time if it’s a restaurant event or think about the things that might be there. Pick something like a small dessert or a cocktail or one other splurge and enjoy it. And, then be done.
· Keep up with your workouts. It’s so easy to let these go, but they are so important. Maybe you need to make them happen first thing in the morning so they get done. Do some of them on the weekends if you need to. Just make sure they keep happening. If you learn to say no to some things, this will be easier 😊 Here is an article on exercise that you might enjoy!
· Keep taking your supplements. You need to keep yourself as healthy as possible during this season. Some immune-boosting supplements can help in this arena. Especially if you are in contact with more people who might be spreading more than Holiday cheer. For more info. on this, check out this article.
· Eat before you attend an event where you know you may be temped to compromise your healthy diet. This way you are not so hungry that you just consume everything in site.
· Sip on water or sparkling water so that you have something to do other than stuff your face with sugary, carby comfort foods.
· Consider some strategic supplements. This is a hack I have discovered.
-The Herb Gymnema helps reduce your cravings for sweets and carby foods. This is, in my opinion, like magic! 2 tablets twice a day is what I recommend.
– Metabol Complex helps support a healthy metabolism which can help you keep weight at bay this, or any time of year. Three of these per day is that sweet spot.
